INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Windows 95/98 1. Start Windows. 2. Start the Windows Explorer. 3. Double click the file setup.exe of this CD and follow the screen. Windows NT 4.0 1. If you are using NT 4.0, Login as Adminstrator and install the Service Pack 4 from Microsoft, see the notes below. 2. Start Windows and login as a normal user or administrator. 3. Start the Windows Explorer. 4. Double click the file setup.exe of this CD and follow the screen. Note: A. Service Pack 3 of NT 4.0 is required by PMWIN. The Service Pack 4 is the latest service pack that was available at the time of the publication of this CD-ROM. Both the two service packs can be download from the web site of Microsoft or can be purchased at a nominal cost. B. If you are using NT 4.0 and have installed Service Pack 3, you may install PMWIN by loggin on to Windows as Adminstrator. The installer will only replace three files (if any) on the \winnt\system32\ folder. These files are asycfilt.dll, oleaut32.dll and olepro32.dll. C. If you are using NT 3.51, there is a Service Pack 5 avaliable on the internet. However, PMWIN 5.0 has not been tested on NT 3.51. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B. READING THE ON-LINE DOCUMENTATIONS You must first install the Acrobat Reader before you can read or print the electronic documentations (PDF files contained in the folder DOCUMENT). Follow the steps below to install the Acrobat Reader. Once you have installed the Acrobat Reader, you can use it to read the file \document\pm5\pm5.pdf. This file is an electronic form of the manual of PMWIN 5.0. You can also find the Manual of the Instructional Problems for MODFLOW in the directory \document\modflmn. This file will be needed when you want to try out some ready-to-run intructional models. To install the Acrobat Reader: Windows 3.1x: 1. Make a new directory on your hard drive 2. Copy the file \reader\win31\ar16e301.exe to the new directory. 3. Execute the file ar16e301.exe from the new directory and follow the screen. Windows 95/98/NT: 1. Execute the file \reader\win95\ar302.exe from the CD-ROM and follow the screen. Please note that the 32-bit version 3.01 of the Acrobat Reader has printing problems with PCL printers. If you have already intalled the version 3.01, it is recommended to update it to version 3.02 (the ar302.exe file on this CD-ROM is the English version 3.02). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C. WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE REGISTERED VERSION The registered version of PMWIN 5.0 can handle models with up to 1000 stress periods, 80 layers and 250,000 cells in each layer.
